Free – it means living without any controls of others and being completely released and liberated. And it means leisure, travel and rest. Free is also the name of Bavaria’s largest fair for leisure and travel and opened its doors again in Munich this year.
From February 20-24, 2019 more than 140.000 visitors (a record!) had the chance to see and discover a widespread exhibition from camping to wellness at the Free fair in Munich. Over 1.300 companies from 70 different countries were spread in the following seven exhibition sectors:
Free – What the fair has to offer
As a travel blogger and passionate swimmer, I wanted to visit the Travel and Water Sports section first at the Free fair in Munich. While the Travel section offered travel itineraries from all over the world, the Water Sports section was a fun change. You could go diving in a little pool, test canoes in the water or try out stand-up paddling in the SUP-pool. Other sections offered a climbing wall with competitions, a bicycle course and several show-stages with interesting lectures and presentations.
Because of the variety of topics, it never gets boring and there is so much to discover at the Free fair in Munich. Another big point is the experience you get at the fair. You can test a lot of things by yourself and have the experts in the right place. Just ask and you will be lucky!
So if you want to get inspired for your next journey or if you’re interested in new outdoor and water sports equipment, I can highly recommend visiting the Free fair in Munich!
What you need to know
If you want to go to the Free fair in Munich next year, don’t make the same mistake as I did and go on the weekend. I was there on a Sunday and it was very, very crowded. Saturday might be a better option if you’re just free on weekends.
The next Free will take place from February 19-23, 2020. I can suggest purchasing an online ticket because you will save 30% of the entrance fee. This year it costs 8€ ($10) which is a fair price for such a big fair.
Also, make sure to print the ticket as you can just get in with the code on the printed paper. But don’t worry if you don’t have a printer. My boyfriend just had it on his phone and there was a service for printing it right at the online service desk.
If you’re interested in several travel itineraries, bring a bag for the catalogs. Most exhibitors offer free catalogs which might be interesting for you. However, if you purchase something, you will get a bag anyway.
One ticket, three events: Besides the Free fair in Munich, you can also attend the Munich Car Days and Golf Days Munich. There you can test-drive new cars and play golf in the exercise area. I haven’t visited them, because I was just interested in the Free. But if you like cars and golfing, it might be very interesting for you.

Thank you so much! It was great, because you could try out so many things. The entrance was not free, unfortunately. But it costs about 8 euro if you purchase it online. I think that’s a very fair price 🙂
